I grew up in San Miguel Betis and I came here to the states when I was 7, but been back 3 times since. I remember how joyful it was on Christmas, with all the different decorations and artistic light work created into making Paroles. I remember hanging socks...our own socks that is...the more socks you hung the more gifts you got inside on Christmas Day. I miss the wholesomeness of the holiday and the family that gather together together even though many aren't well endowed. I remember holy week, how passionate people are to reinact what Jesus went through by carrying the cross and people whipping oneselves till they bleed. The processions with the different saits, adorned with flowers and lights, they look so realistic and the great bands that marched with them. I also remember the church...it was amazing...the artwork, the history, the people. When I think of the church the one thing that pops in my head is the life size Jesus that lays in a glass case. | |
